Durante el apogeo de la Guerra Fría, la Ciudad de México se convirtió en el campo de batalla perfecto para que Estados Unidos y la Unión Soviética se espiaran mutuamente. Se sabía que los espías estadounidenses y soviéticos estaban por todas partes. Incluso se dice que todos los presidentes mexicanos que gobernaron el país entre 1958 y 1988 fueron reclutados por la Agencia de Inteligencia de Estados Unidos (CIA) bajo la operación LITEMPO.
La Ciudad de México funcionaba como un punto estratégico para ambos bandos, ya que era el único territorio en América Latina donde existía representación de cada país. Entre el personal de cada embajada había agentes “secretos” de sus respectivas oficinas de inteligencia, quienes gozaban de libertad de movimiento por todo el país.
Este proyecto cuestiona la libre operación de las redes de espionaje en todos los frentes. De esta manera, buscamos descifrar cómo la Ciudad de México se convirtió en uno de los principales nodos del espionaje global, tanto en la defensa del capitalismo como en la entrada del comunismo en América Latina. Buscamos comprender la importancia geopolítica de México como el gran escenario de la Guerra Fría, presentando una historia de intrigas, traiciones, ejecuciones y torturas.

During the height of the Cold War, Mexico City became the perfect battlefield for the United States and the Soviet Union for them to spy on each other. American and Soviet spies were known to be everywhere. It is even said that all Mexican presidents who were in charge of the country between 1958 and 1988 were recruited by the US Intelligence Agency (CIA) under the operation LITEMPO.
Mexico City operated as a strategic point for both sides as it was the only territory in Latin America where there was a representation of each country. Among the staff of each embassy, there were "secret" agents from their respective intelligence offices who enjoyed freedom of movement throughout the country.
This project questions the free operation of espionage networks on all fronts. In this way we seek to decipher the way in which Mexico City became one of the main nodes of global espionage for the defense of capitalism and the entry of communism into Latin America. We seek to understand the geopolitical importance of Mexico as the great scenario of the Cold War by presenting a history of intrigues, treasons, executions and tortures.
